PARK(ing) Day 2021 Demonstration

Have you heard of the annual international event called Park(ing) Day?  The intention of this one-day event in September is to demonstrate how much outdoor urban space is dedicated to private vehicles, rather than open public space for people.  Since its inception in 2005, it has served as a form of “tactical urbanism”, to design and install a small parklet over one or more parking spaces within a street right-of-way. It’s also a lot of fun!

During World Landscape Architecture Month in April, the San Diego Chapter of ASLA is running an evening webinar, inviting organizations to learn more about how to plan and install an impactful, successful, and legal Park(ing) Day event.  Closer to the date of this year’s Park(ing) Day event on September 17th, our Chapter will further promote all the individual parklets throughout San Diego County.  The intention is to communicate this as a unified, larger effort, to boost the visibility and impact of this event.

We hope to see you on April 15th!
