Freedom Park at Navy Pier is officially underway. Located next to the USS Midway, this future 5.7-acre park will honor veterans and their families while creating a new public space along the San Diego waterfront. RICK served as lead consultant for the project, providing civil, traffic, water resources, surveying, and landscape architecture services, working alongside an incredible design team: BSE, Triton Engineers, Ninyo, and Moore, Wimmer, Yamada, and Caughey. Teams worked closely with the Port of San Diego and the USS Midway to bring this vision to life. Many thanks to Pat Caughey of WYAC, who laid the foundation for the vision of the design. Freedom Park will include museum-quality exhibits, native gardens, a turf parade ground, gathering spaces, and thoughtful memorials like “Footsteps to Freedom” and the Family Sacrifice Memorial. It’s a rare opportunity to help shape a space that holds so much meaning for the community, and RICK is proud to be part of it. After years of planning and progress, the @sandiegoairport Terminal 1 expansion officially opened fall of 2025! The first phase is now welcoming travelers, bringing 19 new gates, upgraded amenities, and improved access across the region. It’s a big milestone for a project that’s been a long time in the making. RICK’s landscape architecture team has been involved in several major components of the expansion, including the 71-acre landscape surrounding Terminal 1, the general transit plaza, the parking structure, and the facilities management campus. Our team also contributed to the landscape design for the airline support building, air cargo facility, and the new administration building. Art by renowned artists is integrated throughout the site, along with LEED elements that support the airport’s long-term sustainability. Big changes could be on the way for Downtown Vista. @vistacagov The Downtown Vista Park and Circulation project focuses on creating a family-friendly downtown with more seating, shade, gathering areas and space for entertainment. StudioWC Architecture & Engineering San Diego Unified School DIsctrict, Euclid Elementary School, Whole Site Modernization. Euclid ES provided the opportunity to greatly improve the permeablility on campus through a multitude of outdoor green spaces, soccer field and outdoor classrooms. This project is still under construction and it was a priority to provide play spaces for the students as soon as possible. We are thrilled to be able to provide the students of Euclid Elementary opportunites for play and learning.
