The San Diego ASLA Chapter is seeking candidates who are interested in the advancement and advocacy of the landscape architecture profession, committed to their community, and willing to share their talents and creativity to grow their leadership skills and professional network. You can nominate yourself or a peer for a position on the Executive Committee by filling out the form provided below.

Elected Leadership Positions Available:
President Elect
Responsibilities include:
Assists President and presides in President’s absence. Assumes Presidency in cases of illness or relocation. Coordinates chapter fundraising of annual sponsorships and golf tournament. Attends ASLA Mid-Year Legislative and National Annual Conference Chapter Presidents Council meetings. Serves as President and Past President and Nominating Committee Chair the following year. Reports monthly to Executive Committee.
Secretary (Full, Fellow, Associate – 1 year term)
Responsibilities include:
Gather monthly Executive Committee agenda items & take/transcribe minutes at meetings and distribute to Board. Coordinates Executive Committee candidate nomination. Notifies candidates of their election each Aug/Sept. Maintains Constitution, Bylaws, Board Roster and ED contract. Reports monthly to Executive Committee.
What is the commitment?
The elections will be held online in July for terms that commence beginning October 14, 2025. All positions are a minimum one-year term with the exception of President-Elect which is three years. The Executive Committee meets once a month by zoom or in-person, to oversee the operations of the chapter. Executive Committee members discuss and take action on a variety of issues confronting the profession, locally and nationally, from emerging industries to public relations, licensure, and more. Participating on the Committee expands one’s awareness of the profession well beyond the Southern Chapter and offers an experience that cannot be gained any other way!

HALS (Historic American Landscape Survey):
HALS Liaisons’ responsibilities include:
- Creating and updating lists of local examples of significant historical landscapes
- Coordinating HALS activities with your State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO)
- Advising on the review and revision of state and local historic preservation laws with the aim of including historic landscape documentation
- Leading advocacy efforts in Congress for funding for HALS
- Enlisting donations to the HALS/HABS/HAER fund
- Promoting public awareness of HALS and historic landscapes
- Continuously seeking out opportunities for local documentation projects
Typically, each ASLA chapter has one HALS Liaison. Chapters that serve multiple states should have one liaison per state. Assisted by the HALS coordinator, chapter presidents choose a liaison from a pool of volunteer applicants. Applicants must be full, associate, or affiliate members of ASLA. HALS Liaisons may serve for an unspecified term.
