IDS Group (www.idsgi.com) is an award-winning multi-discipline design, engineering, and management consulting firm based in Irvine, CA with branch offices in North County San Diego, Los Angeles and overseas. We believe that our strength is in our multi-discipline approach to design solutions, and in 2023 we expanded our services into Landscape Architecture to complement our Architecture and Engineering departments.
We are seeking an entry-level Landscape Designer with strong AutoCAD drafting and construction document (CD) package development experience in Landscape Architecture to join our diverse multi-disciplinary team of professionals in our Encinitas, CA office. This position offers the opportunity for landscape documents production in the firm and will work under our licensed Associate Principal Landscape Architect.
1) Teamwork: As part of a multi-discipline team, emphasis is on sustainable and resilient design solutions which address community needs for reduction in carbon footprint and improve our community quality of life. Alongside our Architects and Engineers, you will problem-solve, plan, and design municipal parks, streetscapes, facilities, libraries, and other important public spaces.
2) Portfolio: Your planning and design opportunities will focus on park planning and design; site and landscape design for public and private buildings; trails; plazas; streetscape design; campus master plans; children’s play environments; and community engagement.
3) Expertise: This position requires a candidate to aspire to grow professionally and advance within the company.
One to three (1-3) years’ professional construction document production experience working within a landscape architecture studio or design office.
You will work with a team of skilled professionals on tasks including site analysis, site design, problem solving, construction documentation and detailing, planting plans, irrigation plans, selection and design of site amenities and paving systems, aesthetic detailing, and project research.
You will assist by meeting deliverable deadlines and provide project support.
Your primary tasks will be to work collaboratively to advance forward-thinking designs, strategies, and materials.
Expertise required for this position includes conceptual exhibits, illustrative graphics, and full construction document sets.
You will help coordinate design requirements with vendors, contractors and equipment suppliers.
Conduct code research, write specifications, and coordinate permitting.
Other responsibilities may include conducting project research and project reports; preparing design presentations; providing support in developing cost estimates; responding to construction submittals and questions; providing sub-consultant and client coordination; and attending client meetings.
This is a full-time, salary position. IDS Group works on projects throughout the world, but this position will focus on projects located in Southern California, and travel throughout this region would be expected.
Experience Required
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, think critically and creatively, and work as part of a collaborative team in an open environment.
* Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited university or an Associate’s degree or Certificate in landscape architecture.
* Relevant consulting experience with strong landscape design and construction document experience, including planting, irrigation, hardscape, site furniture and landscape grading and drainage principles
* Experience in production of Schematic Design (SD), Design Development (DD), and Construction Documents (CD) including site details, materials schedules and layout selection, and planting and irrigation design
* You are willing work in the Encinitas, CA office
* You can produce high-quality work products, including but not limited to complete construction document drawing sets and illustrative site plan and construction details
* Ability to participate collaboratively in small and large group discussions
* Excellent skills in digital graphics and rendering. Hand-drawn graphic skills are a plus
* Experience with Irrigation Design is preferred
* You are an adaptable teammate who is willing to pitch in and help others
* Software proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, LandF/X, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite. Experience in ArcGIS, Lumion. (Revit, and/or Rhino is a plus)
