SUMMARY:2024 Annual Sponsor Opportunities
DESCRIPTION:2024 Annual Sponsorship Opportunities\nThe generous support of our Annual Sponsors has allowed us to play an increasing leadership role locally\, in the state and nationally in promoting the profession of landscape architecture. We could not do this without our generous sponsors. \nOur Annual Kick-off\, hosted by Thompson Building Materials\, allowed us to thank renewing sponsors and our 2023 Four Seasons Sponsors: Modern Builders Supply\, Coast Recreation\, Dave Bang and ReproHAUS and a special salute to our Ruby Sponsor\, TB Penick & Sons\, who helped us kick off our Chapter’s 47th year. \nThere are several levels of Annual sponsorship we offer each year (see Sponsor Benefits at the link below) so you may select the level of sponsorship best suited to your goals. We recognize our sponsors have had to work harder to reach out to their clients so we are continuing with the reduced sponsor donation levels for 2024. We welcome new sponsors each year and encourage you to contact us if you want to discuss the benefits of becoming a sponsor or consider increasing your existing sponsor level. \nTo confirm your sponsorship\, please complete and email your pledge form to our Chapter office @ ASLASD@sbcglobal.net and include your company logo. Please mail your check payable to SDASLA along with a copy of your sponsor pledge form to 1050 Rosecrans Street\, Suite B\, San Diego\, CA 92106. For inquiries about credit card sponsorship payments (fees apply)\, donation invoices or W9’s please send an email request to ASLASD@sbcglobal.net \nUpload Sponsor Benefits and Pledge Form HERE

SUMMARY:Firescaping and the Miyawaki Afforestation Method Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Firescaping and the Miyawaki Afforestation Method\nHosted by the SDASLA Climate Action Committee\nFriday\, February 9 @ 12 pm – Free Webinar\nRegister by February 8 to get Zoom Meeting Link\nShare the event flyer at this LINK\nPresenter – Dr. Trevor Maynard\, Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer with Extropy Research\nWe’re kicking off the new year with an engaging talk and an exciting project. Our featured discussion will delve into the dual topics of Firescaping and the Miyawaki Afforestation Method. The inspiration for this conversation arose during our exploration of the Miyawaki Method\, promoted for its efficient approach to cultivating native\, biodiverse forest ecosystems. This method involves densely and randomly planting all layers of a forest simultaneously\, aligning with the natural succession stages of a forest. \nOur talk will address how this method\, originally developed in a temperate climate\, can be adapted to our Mediterranean climate. We’ll explore where our fire regulations permit the establishment of such densely intermixed plantings. To kick off the discussion\, Dr. Trevor Maynard\, a Mechanical and Fire Protection Engineer with Extropy Research\, will provide an overview of California’s current fire regulations and Fire Hazard Severity Zones (FHSZ). He’ll offer insights into the evolution of these regulations and how our profession can contribute valuable input to regulators. \nWe invite you to set aside an hour on Friday\, February 9\, at noon to join us and actively participate in this enlightening conversation. RSVP at the following link and well send you the Zoom link:  https://bpt.me/6205324 \nWe are embarking on the exciting venture of planting a miniforest in the Miyawaki style based on the insights gathered from our talk. While we have a designated test site\, we welcome suggestions for additional sites. The ideal location would be a neglected or underutilized urban area outside of a Very High FHSZ. We are also seeking a local user group or organization interested in partnering with us for the installation and maintenance of this project. \nYour participation is key\, so let’s come together and make a positive impact on our environment. Mark your calendar and join us to learn more.

SUMMARY:ASLA Southern CA Wildfire Taskforce Summit - Virtual
DESCRIPTION:Southern California ASLA has experienced one of the worst climate catastrophes in California history. Our thoughts are with all those affected by the devastating fires across Southern California. Some of their members have been directly affected by the destructive wildfires while others have been focusing their energy on supporting those dear to them and their communities in any way they can. \nThat is why ASLA SoCal created a ‘Wildfire Response Taskforce’ within their Climate Action Committee. Through volunteer\, education\, and advocacy they hope to create a strong community of landscape architects and professionals to help rebuild L.A. sustainably and mindfully in hopes to avoid future catastrophes like this from occurring. ASLA SoCal invites you to join with them in creating a document that will be a resource to landscape architects designing for fire abatement\, as well as for the community and municipalities to inform site design standards. \nPlease join SoCal President-Elect\, Melanie Buffa\, ASLA and SoCal Climate Action Chair\, Alyssa Moffitt\, Assoc. ASLA for this very important hour long Summit. \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83392473730?pwd=8Twp6zdj8wrDxjYHPxF7KuNDjeh10L.1 \nDial by your location\n1 669 444 9171 \nMeeting ID: 833 9247 3730\nPasscode: 663268
