SUMMARY:2022 Community Grant - Application Deadline August 17th
DESCRIPTION:The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) is a national professional organization founded in 1899 representing landscape architects in private\, public and academic practice.  Its membership includes design professionals in landscape architecture who design and plan city parks\, environmental/habitat restoration\, residential and commercial projects and new designers working toward state licensure. \nThe ASLA mission is to lead\, educate\, and participate in the careful stewardship\, wise planning\, and artful design of our cultural and natural environment. \nThe San Diego Chapter of ASLA (SDASLA) was formed in 1976 to serve both the profession and the public on local issues dealing with the practice of landscape architecture.  These issues include water conservation\, environmental and urban design\, climate change and quality of life issues. \nThe ASLA San Diego Community Grant was established in 1997 as a result of the Chapter’s commitment to the local community. \n  \nSan Diego ASLA Community Grant Purpose\nIn order for the profession of landscape architecture to make its full contribution to the San Diego community\, the accessibility and understanding of the profession must be made available to all community members.  This Grant is intended to educate and enhance the community understanding of landscape architecture and environmental issues. \n$5\,000 Reimbursable Grant Award \nCommunity groups are invited to apply for the Grant by August 17\, 2021 to make landscape improvements to their neighborhoods. The grant recipient will be notified and the grant distribution period will begin by December 1 in the application year. Funds are distributed quarterly to reimburse a community group for expenses and help them conclude their grant work by December 1 of the following year. The final reimbursement is made after the recipient sends an overview and photos of the project showing the work completed. \nThe following are examples of what the Grant could be used for: \n* Landscape Amenities: Cost to purchase & install benches\, plant materials\, paving\, shade structures\, irrigation\, trail directional signs\, etc. \n* Landscape Construction: The cost to construct landscape improvements. \n* Landscape Maintenance: The cost to provide maintenance of existing landscape improvements (will be ranked lower unless significant changes are proposed). The enclosed application includes other project details. \nEligibility \nAll non-profit community groups recognized by the IRS and the California Secretary of State\, located in San Diego County\, that have been in existence as a non-profit group for at least three (3) years are eligible to apply for the Community Grant. \nFor more information\, contact the SDASLA Chapter Office at 619-283-8818 or ASLASD@sbcglobal.net. \nTo apply 2022 ASLA Community Grant Application Form

A video link will be emailed to you after you complete the registration HERE \n  \nHave you heard of the annual international event called Park(ing) Day?  The intention of this one-day event in September is to demonstrate how much outdoor urban space is dedicated to private vehicles\, rather than open public space for people.  Since its inception in 2005\, it has served as a form of “tactical urbanism”\, to design and install a small parklet over one or more parking spaces within a street right-of-way. DESCRIPTION:#ResilientLand Challenge\nYour Call to Action on Climate Change\n \nASLA San Diego is issuing a “call to action” on Climate Change\, the defining topic of our time\, and one that will have a direct impact on the future livability of our region and our planet. \nMany landscape architects\, architects and planners are doing significant work on this issue and we need to provide a platform for visibility to share our work on climate change mitigation and adaptation with the public. \nASLA San Diego believes that landscape architecture is the profession best suited to solve the complex issues around climate change in the built- environment. Not only can we educate each other and the public\, but sharing our solutions can serve as a catalyst to push the boundaries of our profession in this field. \nWith this in mind our ASLA San Diego chapter has launched the #ResilientLand Challenge – a direct call to action to every ASLA member and associated professions\, encouraging you to create social media posts related to your work on climate change issues using the hashtags #ResilientLand and #ASLASD. \nIt’s as simple as posting a photo of a built project\, a proposed design\, detail or solution for a local climate-related issue. Posts can be made on Facebook\, Instagram and Twitter using hashtag #ResilientLand along with a brief description. \nThe #ResilientLand Challenge will run through March 31\, 2019\, and will culminate at the Chapter’s Landscape Architecture Month event in April. \nThis is when ASLA will announce the most compelling post that addresses climate change specific to this region and that person or company will be awarded the chapter’s 2019 Stewardship Award. DESCRIPTION:Help spread the word to your favorite community nonprofit who could benefit from the ASLA annual Community Grant.  The grant application is mailed to over 300 nonprofits in the county and the application and support letters are due on August 18.  Copies of the editable grant application can be requested at ASLASD@sbcglobal.net \nASLA San Diego Community Grant Purpose\nIn order for the profession of landscape architecture to make its full contribution to the San Diego Community\, the accessibility and understanding of the profession must be made available to all community members.  The Chapter’s grant is intended to educate and enhance the community on landscape architecture and/or environmental issues. \n$5\,000 Reimbursable Grant Award \nCommunity groups are invited to apply for the Grant to make landscape improvements to their neighborhoods. The grant period begins December 1 in the application year. Funds are distributed quarterly to reimburse community groups for expenses and help them conclude their grant work by December 1 of the following year. DESCRIPTION:PARK(ing) Day is about two weeks away on Friday\, September 16th and the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)NEEDS YOUR HELP to spread the word and participate. \n \nThe San Diego chapter would like to encourage all members to participate in this special day. This is a great opportunity to express the importance of parks in our urban and public realm and MAKE A STATEMENT AROUND THE WORLD. If you are interested in Park(ing) Day and want to set up a parklet it’s as simple as 1\, 2\, 3. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. Set one up! Just setting up a simple parking space on Friday\, September 16th with a few plants and chairs can make a big statement in your neighborhood (see photo below). If you are concerned about the legal ramifications of this space\, just pay the meter! The City of San Diego and surrounding Cities in the county are in general support of this event and will not hassle you if you are in a legal parking spot.
