KTUA Landscape Architecture and Planning contributed as a design-team member on the recently completed renovation of the Torrey Pines North 18-hole golf course that has won a 2017 Project of the Year award from the American Public Works Association, San Diego chapter.

The award will be celebrated at a ceremony on May 11 at Paradise Point Resort. With this award, the project is automatically considered for an Outstanding Project of the Year award to be selected in the fall.

The project utilized the design-build delivery method administered by the city of San Diego Public Works Department, overseen by Kevin Oliver, project officer, and Mark Marney, director of golf operations. Wadsworth Golf Construction Co. was the prime contractor.

KTUA performed as a sub-consultant to Wadsworth Golf, alongside a design team comprised of world-renowned golf-course designer Tom Weiskopf, O’Day Consulting Engineers, and Bryant Taylor Gordon Irrigation Design.

KTUA Principal, Kurt Carlson, has been involved with other past project work at Torrey Pines for over 10 years, some of which involved landscape improvements to make way for the 2008 U.S. Open.
