KTUA is updating and creating a new playground within an existing park, City of San Diego Memorial Community Park, in the Logan Heights neighborhood of the City of San Diego.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer, City Councilman David Alvarez and Ray Bernal from the Memorial Recreation Council spoke at the opening ceremonies on April 2. Students and the principle from Logan Elementary participated in the sand-shoveling ceremony and inspected the renderings for the new playground.

According to KTUA key personnel on the project, Amy Hoffman and Tim Henderson, updates will address accessibility issues, provide new equipment for kids to play on, and give the park patrons a new restroom facility. The goal is to have the improvements finished by February 2019.

The scope of work addresses renovation of an existing play area to provide new play structures for neighborhood families; concrete block-style benches; drinking fountains; drought-tolerant landscape and upgraded irrigation; a new prefabricated restroom; two new ADA- compliant parking spaces; and an accessible pathway to the improvement areas for compliance with current accessibility regulations.
